The project "Early Medieval Christian Communities (5th to 11th centuries): Interdisciplinary Study" is developed in the framework of the Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM) of Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.
The project is funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and has the support of several other entities as Arqueohoje, Lda; Diocece of Viseu; Celorico da Beira Council and others.
The main purpose is to study the relationship between an urban center and its suburbs during the High Middle Ages. As a study case was selected the central region of Portugal, more specifically the area of Viseu.
The project will run between January 2013 and December 2015.
